Quality Of Life

* Opinions always vary - for many people quality of life is something they feel inside, like or dislike, and there will be always differences of opinions.  We try to talk about things that can be measured or generally known about Canada.  Things we list here would not guarantee to make you happy, but they will help you to build and achieve what you want from your life:

* we are ranked among global leaders in income level per person.  Working Canadians earn in average $13-15 /(Can. dollars) per hour (1.5 Cnd dollars approx. equals one US $. Canadian dollar is stable).  Do not forget that "average" is not what newcomers necessarily receive.  Your earnings will depend on initiative, commitment to quality work, ability to learn, be team player, negotiate your pay etc. Starting wages for  general labor ("any job", even with weak English) are $7-9/hr; People with good skills and experience can earn $15-25/hr.

* we are free market society, much like the United States.  One can say that for the last decade (1990-2000) we were evolving from "less socialism" to "more free market economy".  Here everyone can start his own business any day and start providing goods and services that customers need, so you can prosper, depending on your hard work and talents. You do not need any special connections and "permissions" to achieve that in Canada.  Yet on the other hand - we have a strong social security support for those who are in need: anyone with temporary difficulty and unable to support themselves is eligible for social support payments, while there are also incentives to help people to become self-supporting. It is important to note that our immigration system discourages those who want to come to Canada, but do not want to work - ability to become self-supporting and successful is the cornerstone of our immigration policy.

* we are stable democratic society with strong traditions for human rights and freedoms, guaranteed by constitution (Charter of rights). Canadians enjoy such fundamental rights as:
- equality before law, independent courts and judges (it also helps in many cases to have professionals assist you (yes - consultants, lawyers, accountants etc.) in many cases to achieve best result, so you should decide what's best for you)
- mobility - Canadian citizens can freely live anywhere in Canada or outside (in USA for example)

- freedom of speech - if you disagree about something that government is doing - you can freely express your opinion, but violent behavior is not tolerated - both in family and in society (violent crimes are vigorously prosecuted by the police, so normal people feel safe)
- freedom of association - anything from sport, hobbies, charities to business, professional, political and religious groups; ....see also our notes on political system

* we are a multicultural society - immigrants from around the world have their cultural heritage classes for children, newspapers, radio & TV programs; on the other hand, we have many integration programs, free English and professional upgrading classes for newcomers, since all of us have to function in English environment; Canadians are friendly to newcomers from other cultures and races - that's important.  We are also an officially bilingual country (English and French), most of French-speaking people live in the province of Quebec (main city isMontreal).

* the rest is up to you - we are very modern "wired" and "wireless" computerized and open economy, so if you find that something is missing here - it's not a problem - it's a business opportunity!- our company's mission is to give you that chance for future in Canada
